Case Study 2, meeting RUG's during the Holidays - a potential therapy staffing nightmare made easy!

In this case study, the resident is admitted on December 21. This day is a Tuesday. The therapy manager decides that this resident is appropriate for Rehab Very High, and formulates an estimated therapy pattern based on this information. As the screen shot below shows, day 7, December 27, is predicted for the 5-Day assessment reference date, as it is the first date that RV would be achieved for this resident.

Unfortunately, as Thursday approached, this resident became slightly ill and refused PT completely, and only achieved 35 minutes of OT. These minutes are placed into the FutuRUG Therapy RUG Calculator.

What has happened is this resident will no longer meet the minute requirements before the end of the assessment reference date. According to the calculator, 79 minutes will have to be made up over the 3 days of therapy. When the Therapy Manager notices there has been a refusal, they will open the Fix-A-Rug© and then, very quickly, the minute pattern can be fixed for the 5-day assessment reference date.

In the event that RV is no longer appropriate, the Therapy Manager would also note that RH was already attained as of Day 1, by a blend, and could plan accordingly. This is what the corrected FutuRUG Therapy Calculator would look like after the Fix-A-Rug©.

Notice that RV has been attained on day 8! The Fix-A-Rug© calculator takes about 5 seconds to recalculate a RUG. Additionally, the Fix-A-Rug© can be used to determine how many additional minutes it would take to ramp up or ramp down RUG levels.
